What is your turnaround time for a bid?2019-09-14T16:20:54-05:00

24 hours to 1 week, depending upon size and complexity of project.

Do you provide quotes / bids to contractors?2019-09-14T16:20:04-05:00

Yes. A large portion of our business is derived from contractors and builders.

How far in advance do I need to order for 1,000 sqft of flooring?2019-09-14T16:47:01-05:00

Typically, this would be 2 weeks to 1 month, however this depends upon time of year and availability of desired species.  For best service, please contact us by phone or email.

Do you work with a contractor schedule, i.e. for building a home or structure?2019-09-14T16:15:15-05:00

Yes, we work closely with contractors and/or homeowners to ensure your product is ready on time.  However, there are occasional variables that can delay production slightly.

Can you deliver to a build site on a scheduled day and time?2019-09-14T16:14:30-05:00

We strive to please our customers and communicate with them throughout their building progress to make sure their products will arrive on time.  Typically, we accommodate requested delivery date and time.

What steps should I take to paint shiplap?2019-09-14T16:13:50-05:00
  1. Depending upon desired look, you may need to sand shiplap. (For more rustic look and character, DO NOT sand)
  2. Remove any dust or dirt that may have settled on surface of wood.  Make sure surface is completely dry if you have used a cleaner or any water to clean.
  3. Again, depending up desired look, you may need to fill nail holes with a wood filler (visible nail holes give more character).  Allow filler to dry and then sand until surface is blended well with surrounding wood.
  4. Apply a good quality primer with either a brush, roller or an airless spray gun.
  5. Apply a good quality paint with color of your choice using same manner as primer.  Allow to dry completely.  Repeat as needed, 1 to 2 coats until desired look is achieved.
Will I need to sand my flooring?2019-09-14T16:11:17-05:00

Although our wood floors are extremely smooth with uniform thickness, allowing a nearly seamless fit between boards if installed over a perfectly level subfloor, we do recommend at least a light sanding before finishing.  Keep in mind, most subfloors are not perfect—sanding provides a clean, even, and uniform surface which will ensure the best finish.

Do I have to seal my shiplap?2019-09-14T16:10:28-05:00

Depends upon whether painting, staining or leaving natural.  For painting, a good quality primer and paint is all that is necessary.  If staining or leaving natural, a sealant topcoat (we will be glad to give guidance on the best products) will protect the wood and allow for easy cleaning.

Does the wood need to acclimate to my home?2019-09-14T16:09:34-05:00

Yes, we recommend all our wood products be given a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks to acclimate to your home before being installed.  While shiplap is more forgiving and could be installed same day, flooring will be less likely to separate if allowed to acclimate based upon time of year and climate of home.

When will I receive my flooring once I place an order?2019-09-14T16:08:43-05:00

Most of our products are custom order.  Therefore, our inventory is mostly rough, dried lumber that is ready to be run into flooring or moulding.

We pride ourselves in producing the best quality wood products which requires a multi-step process – logging trees, milling into rough lumber, kiln drying (takes 3-4 weeks), sorting by grade, straight edging, running through moulding machine, quality checking, bundling and ready for shipping.

Length of time from order placement to delivery is dependent upon many variables:

  1. Type of wood species (availability at time of order—we may have what you want already dried in our inventory but if we do not it could take 3 to 4 weeks before it is ready for production.)
  2. Size of order (total number of square feet or lineal feet)
  3. Type of product (tongue and groove flooring, shiplap and car siding are common orders and we keep these knives on hand.  However, for certain moulding profiles we may not have the knives on hand, so that may add an additional week.).

Some orders can have a 2-week turn around, where other orders may require several months.

Larger orders are usually placed a month or two in advance—typically new home construction order may be initiated shortly after breaking ground or framing has begun.

It is best to call or email us with your interests so we can give you an estimate on time.

How much is shipping? How far will you ship?2019-09-14T16:02:15-05:00

Shipping is FREE for most orders within a 3 hour radius.  Customers are always welcome to pickup order at our mill or we can arrange a meet and transfer.  Otherwise, we can ship any products anywhere in the US—shipping cost will be determined based upon freight costs and will be negotiated with customer.

How much waste should I calculate for my flooring, shiplap or moulding?2019-09-14T16:01:12-05:00

Standard waste is 10% but this can vary depending upon grade of wood and expertise of installer.  As mentioned earlier, we always make sure 10% has been included for waste and we also include a few extra boards at no cost with every order.

Do you supply or sell finishing products?2019-09-14T16:00:25-05:00

We do not sell or supply finishing products.  We are happy to give suggestions based on our knowledge of wood species and how it accepts stains, as well as type of topcoat to use based on customer preference for matte or gloss appearance.  We do offer raw wood samples for customers to experiment with different stains and finishes.

Do you finish the product?2019-09-14T15:59:23-05:00

We do not finish or install any products.  Products will be delivered bundled as raw, wood tongue and groove flooring, plank flooring, crown moulding, baseboard, door or window casing, S4S, carsiding, wainscoting or other application.  It is up to either the customer or contractor to prep, paint or stain wood themselves. If we have a greater request for finished products, we will consider adding this to our services in the future.

Note (Shiplap): It is easier to paint shiplap and mouldings prior to installation. (We have found laying a few pieces across a couple sawhorses and then either spraying with an airless spray gun or painting with brush makes for a smooth and quick process.)

Note (Flooring): There are carpentry sub-specialists who only lay and finish floors.  In our opinion, wood floors that have been installed, sanded, stained and then finished with a protective coat have a superior look to floors that have been pre-finished and then laid.

Do you make floating floors? Anything other than tongue and groove?2019-09-14T15:53:53-05:00

We do not produce floating floors.  All of our products are 100% wood.  Tongue and groove is the majority of what we sell, but we also sell plank flooring or shiplap flooring.  We can run any flooring boards with or without edges beveled.

What materials do I need to install shiplap?2019-09-14T15:52:29-05:00

First and foremost, our shiplap is very easy to install – much easier than the thinner, flimsy products offered in big box stores.  Most important step is the first—make sure first row of shiplap is perfectly level and all studs have been identified and clearly marked down the wall.  After this, it is simply place and nail.

Material List

  1. Level
  2. Tape measure
  3. Saw (miter saw preferred)
  4. Nails (any nails will work – small finish nail will give a cleaner look, larger nails add more character.  Of course, you can always fill nail holes with wood filler, sand and paint or stain)
  5. Hammer
  6. Glue (recommend also applying glue when installing wider shiplap boards in addition to nailing, especially if items will be hung on shiplap)
  7. Finish Punch
What do I need to do to prepare my old floors for new wood flooring? 2019-09-14T15:49:06-05:00

This varies based on different types and thickness of underlayment.  Some surfaces should not be covered with wood and other surfaces will need prep work.  Please discuss this with your contractor or if you are a DIYer, feel free to reach out to us with any questions.

How do I determine how much shiplap I need for my wall?2019-09-14T15:47:48-05:00

Figure the square footage of wall then subtract square footage of any doorways or windows.  Add 10% to final square footage to account for waste.  We always include a few extra boards at no cost to ensure you have enough product for your project.  It’s worth noting that our shiplap is ¾” thick, which means it is easier to install and if installed properly you will never have to worry about finding a stud to hang pictures or other décor.  Also, we will be happy to assist you in figuring the accurate square footage for your project.
